Carthages Miguel Solano – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Rib Crib

Prep Sports interviewed Carthages Miguel Solano to discuss his athletic career.

PREP SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for this year sports wise is to go to state for the 800 and be an all state medalist. Trying for top 3. At the same time I want to break the school record for the 800 which is 1:53.5. Some life goals are to find things that make me happier and to get closer with my faith.

PREP SPORTS: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun I had in the last year would probably be a dodgeball tournament I was in a couple weeks ago. I don’t get to do many things I find fun but I would say being in a group of friends and signing up for dodgeball and losing was the most fun I had in a while.

PREP SPORTS: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher would definitely have to be Mrs. Palmer. She’s a chemistry teacher that I had for a couple years. Besides being a great teacher, she was a great and thoughtful human being. There was a
day where I was having a rough morning because of a rough night and she was just very caring and understanding that morning. I will never forget how much she was there for me in my rough times.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic would definitely have to be going to state and medaling in the 800 as a sophomore.
Nothing at this moment can beat that feeling of being able to go to one of the biggest and most competitive meets and be able to medal. My coaches and teammates were so hyped after and it was just
a great feeling.

PREP SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me would probably be Mariques Strickland. In the end he left and I was mad at him because he quit and stopped trying as hard, but before that happened,
he was the person who always pushed me past my limits. He was the one I wanted to catch up and beat.
During workouts I would always try to get with him and be faster. He would always push me on long runs
and he would always have my back if I was getting disrespected. He was also a caring person so he definitely left an impact on me, I just wish he never gave up in the end.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on my team would definitely have to be cheering each other on. I love the atmosphere of the team where we all just cheer each other on and lose our voices in the end of the meet.

PREP SPORTS: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

I’m not really great at picking a place to spend summer vacation. I’m more of let’s go to different places and try things i’ve never tried before. A person I would take with me would have to be one of my close
friends, Daniela marquez. I’ve known her for almost my entire life and she’s always a fun person to be around so I would definitely bring her.

PREP SPORTS: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

That’s a tough question, but with $250 i would def gift to mrs palmer. I always wanted to give her a gift of
some sort and I found money would help her get her little kids what they have wanted but could not get. it may not be a lot but i know she would be so happy to be able to buy her kids things they can not get
often. the rest of the money i don’t know what i would do with to be honest. I’m not really a guy that wants a lot of things. I just get what I need and don’t get anything else for a while. But i think i would buy
furniture or just room supplies because me and my family just moved into our new house and all i have in
my room currently is a night stand.

PREP SPORTS: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I do not participate in any community service projects at the moment. I do participate in community services whenever someone mentions it. Because I never hear if there’s a community that needs service until a friend of mine mentions that they need help. I’ve helped with many different services, such as giving food driving covid, delivering food, taking some of the vital signs for a school in Avilla and many more. I’m always wanting to help if possible. I like helping.

PREP SPORTS: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I’m not involved in any clubs or campus groups.

PREP SPORTS: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

I just got involved in the National Honor Society as of this year.
